What were the results of Cash for Clunkers?
1. We changed out 700,000 cars across the US
2. The average fuel efficiency upgrade was 60%: from 15.3 MPG to 25 MPG
3. We changed the way consumers think about cars - now many focus on the cost of filling it with gas and not just on the upfront sticker price.
4. The goverment spent $3 billion and multiplied that to another $23 billion of consumer spending for a total of $26 billion of stimulus for $3 billion of spending - now that's a good program!

The Cash for clunkers was great. The thing that I would change is that the trade-ins with rust free infrastructures be converted to alternative fuel cars for the low income or those with cars have a rebate or grant to convert to alternate systems that will lower the carbon footprint and save the families money in long term. That would have stretched funds further and more cars on the road with cleaner mileage .

PS If they could reinstate Shop and Home Economics with a green theme for schools by having all schools have greenhouses that supplies produce for school lunches and the community in the summer months which is attended by an after school program that is run year round. I have more details if interested.
